"θολός" meaning in Ancient Greek

See θολός in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

IPA: /tʰo.lós/, /θoˈlos/, /θoˈlos/, /tʰo.lós/ (note: 5ᵗʰ BCE Attic), /tʰoˈlos/ (note: 1ˢᵗ CE Egyptian), /θoˈlos/ (note: 4ᵗʰ CE Koine), /θoˈlos/ (note: 10ᵗʰ CE Byzantine), /θoˈlos/ (note: 15ᵗʰ CE Constantinopolitan)
Etymology: Uncertain. The word has been connected with terms for turbidness of the mind, like Proto-Germanic *dwelaną (“to go astray”) and *dwalaz (“confused, stunned”), resulting in a putative proto-form *θϝολός (*thwolós). The Germanic words may or may not be connected with Proto-Celtic *dallos (“blind”). There is no indication, however, that these Indo-European forms are cognate. Furnée compares ὀλός (olós, “ink of the cuttlefish”).
